⚠️ Important:
This is an early feature. Dynamics 365 Business Central integration is currently read-only. Publishing extractions directly to Business Central will be available soon.
In the meantime, you can continue using the Dynamics 365 Business Central (CSV) template to export your extractions and import them into Business Central.
This integration is for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (online/cloud) only. It does not support Business Central on-premises or other Dynamics 365 products such as Finance & Operations or Sales.
Dynamics 365 Business Central integration is currently waitlisted. Contact support team or send an email to [email protected] to get it enabled for your organization.
Before you connect
Make sure the following are in place:
Your company uses Business Central online (cloud). On-premises deployments are not supported.
You will sign in with a Microsoft work account that has a Business Central license and access to the company you want to connect.
Depending on your organization's Microsoft Entra settings, an IT administrator may need to approve the connection the first time.
Keep in mind:
If your organization restricts app consent, you may see a "Need admin approval" screen during sign-in, ask your Microsoft Entra administrator to approve the connection, then try again.
The Microsoft connection can expire after about 90 days without syncing, or if the connecting user's password is reset or the account is disabled. If this happens, go back into the integration and click Reconnect. We recommend connecting with a durable account rather than one belonging to an employee who may leave.
How to connect Dynamics 365 Business Central
Follow these steps to connect your Business Central account to Tofu.
Go to Entity Settings.
Select Integrations.
Click Add New Integration.
Select Dynamics 365 Business Central then Connect.
You'll be redirected to the Microsoft sign-in page. Sign in with the Microsoft work account you use for Business Central.
Review the requested permissions and click Accept.
Back in Tofu, select your Business Central Environment (for example, Production).
Select the Company within that environment.
Your Business Central integration is now connected to the entity.
💡Tips:
Before activating, you can turn on Self-Prompt for your AP Bills, AR Invoices, and Direct Expenses in the configuration panel. This lets Tofie learn from your historical transactions in Business Central and apply your coding patterns automatically during review. If you do not have historical data in Business Central yet, you can upload a CSV or Excel file instead in Entity Settings → Knowledge Base.
One connection links one company in one environment. To switch to a different company, connect the integration again and select the new company.
How to check if accounting data is synced
After connecting Business Central, you can check whether your accounting data is available in Tofu.
Go to Entity Settings.
Select Accounting.
Review the available accounting data, such as accounts, taxes, items, contacts, currencies, or tags.
💡 Tip: If you create new accounting data in Business Central, click the Sync button in Tofu to refresh and update the data. Do note that tax rates sync as codes only — percentages aren't available from the API, so amounts are still accurate but you may want to add rate percentages directly in Tofu under Entity Settings → Accounting if needed.
How to export and import extractions
Dynamics 365 Business Central integration is currently read-only, so extractions are not published directly to Business Central yet.
For now, use the export → import workflow:
Review the extraction in Tofu.
Make sure the extraction details are correct.
Export the extraction using the Dynamics 365 Business Central (CSV) template.
Download the CSV file.
Go to Business Central.
Import the CSV file into Business Central.
Review the imported transaction in Business Central.
This lets you continue moving extraction data from Tofu into Business Central while direct publishing is still being developed.
Dynamics 365 exports can use different columns depending on your country and company preferences. The Dynamics 365 Business Central (CSV) template in Tofu uses a general format. If your Business Central setup uses a custom configuration package with different columns, reach out to support team to request a custom layout.
💡 Tips:
For a single extraction, you can export directly from the review page by clicking the three-dot menu and selecting Export. If you need to export multiple extractions at once, go to the Extractions panel, select the extractions you want, and use Bulk Export.
To skip choosing a template on every export, set CSV Export Target to Dynamics 365 Business Central in Entity Settings → Features. Exports will then use the Business Central (CSV) template automatically. If you switch between multiple export templates, keep CSV Export Target set to None so you can choose at export time.
Tips and best practices
Make sure you select the correct Environment and Company — one connection links a single company.
When adding new data in Business Central, use Sync in Tofu to refresh the data.
Connect with a long-lived account so the integration isn't broken by password resets or offboarding.
