What is Tax Amount Override?
The Tax Amount Override feature lets you manually edit the tax amounts on your invoices in Tofu, instead of always using automatically calculated tax values. This is especially useful when you need to match exact tax totals from receipts or supplier invoices.
Note: Tax Amount Override is currently available for users integrated with Xero.
How to Enable Tax Amount Override
Go to Settings:
Navigate to your Integrations card in Tofu’s settings.Find the Toggle:
Look for the option labeled Allow Tax Amount Override.Turn it On:
Switch the toggle on to enable manual editing of tax amounts.
How It Works
When Override Is Disabled
You cannot click or edit the tax amount field on invoices.
Tax is always calculated automatically based on the tax rate, using the same logic as Xero.
The tax amount is locked and follows your software’s rules.
When Override Is Enabled
You’ll see a pencil icon at the top of the Tax Amount column in your invoice.
Click the pencil to edit and override the tax amount for any line item.
Enter your required tax amount and save the bill.
Any changes you make will sync with Xero, so your edited amount appears there as well.
✨ You can now teach Tofie how to handle tax amounts by adding simple prompts in your Knowledge Base—for example, “Always round the extracted tax amount to the nearest whole number.”
When the override toggle is on, Tofie applies your rules automatically; when it’s off, invoices stick with the calculated value. This gives you full control and consistency without manual edits every time. 🪄
What Happens If You Turn Override Off Again?
You can turn off the Tax Amount Override at any time from your integration settings.
Once disabled, users can’t edit tax amounts on invoices for that entity anymore.
Any previously overridden tax amounts will remain, and two-way syncing with Xero continues for those invoices.
Tips & Best Practices
Use tax override to match supplier invoices or receipts exactly, especially when rounding differences occur.
Regularly check your integration settings to ensure the override option is set according to your team’s needs.
Troubleshooting
Edits not appearing in Xero? Try refreshing both Tofu and Xero. Syncing may take a moment.
Can’t edit tax? Double-check your integration settings and ensure the override toggle is enabled.
