Overview 📋
Tofu's snippet feature allows you to split images containing multiple receipts into separate documents. This is particularly useful when you've photographed several receipts together or have a single image with multiple invoices that need to be processed individually.
When to Use the Snippet Feature 🤔
Use the snippet tool when you have:
📸 Multiple receipts photographed in a single image
🧾 Several invoices placed side-by-side that were captured together
How to Snip a Multi-Receipt Page 🛠️
Step 1: Access the Snippet Tool ✂️
When viewing a page with multiple receipts, look for the scissors icon (✂️) in the top toolbar. The tooltip will show "Snippet the page."
Step 2: Select the Receipt Area 🎯
Click the scissors icon to activate the snippet tool
A selection box with draggable corner handles will appear on the image
Position the selection box around the first receipt you want to extract
Drag the corner handles to precisely frame the receipt boundaries
💡 Tip: Make sure the entire receipt is inside the selection box, including all text and barcodes. Avoid placing the selection box flush against the image edge, leave a small margin from the border for better accuracy.
Troubleshooting:
If snipping near the image border causes errors, redraw the selection slightly inside the page boundary (leave a small padding) and try again.
Step 3: Create Snippets ✨
Once you've selected the desired area, the system will automatically create a snippet. You can then:
🔄 Reposition the selection box to capture additional receipts
➕ Create multiple snippets from the same source image
📐 Adjust each snippet's boundaries as needed
Step 4: Review Snippets ✅
After creating snippets, you'll see them organized in the interface:
Source Documents panel: Shows your original image with all created snippets listed below it (Snippet 1, Snippet 2, Snippet 3, etc.)
Invoices panel: Displays the newly created invoices from each snippet
🔗 Each snippet is automatically linked to its corresponding invoice for easy tracking
After Snippeting 🎉
Each snippet becomes a separate invoice in Tofu. You can then:
📝 Review and edit each invoice independently
🤖 Let the system extract data per receipt
📎 Keep all snippets linked to the original source image
⚠️ Accounting Sync Behavior (Important)
When an extraction created from a snippet is published or synced to accounting software:
Only the cropped receipt image is sent as the attachment
Full multi-receipt images are not included
This ensures systems like Xero and QuickBooks Online receive only the relevant supporting document for each bill or expense, keeping records clean and correctly matched.
