💡 Tip: If documents were uploaded before Auto Split was enabled or configured, you can reprocess them to split the documents. Learn more: Reprocess a Document from the Source Documents Panel.
1. Configuring AI Auto Split for an Entity
Open the Entity Settings → AI section and choose:
No Auto Split = Opt Out → Do not use AI Auto Split.
Auto Split = (Split Only) → Splits files into Pending extractions without extracting.
Auto Split and Extract = (Split + Extract) → Splits and extracts automatically, creating Needs Review extractions.
💡 Tip: For newly created entities, Auto Split is enabled by default. Change to Auto Split & Extract if you want both splitting and extraction automatically.
2. Processing a Document
Upload a file that contains multiple items, such as:
Multiple invoices in one PDF
Bank statements containing multiple accounts
Tofie will:
Detect separate sections in the document.
Split the document into individual extractions.
Assign the appropriate workflow status.
Status after splitting
Pending = Split Only
Needs Review = Split + Extract
Check each extraction in the Extraction Panel to confirm.

3. Example Workflow
Upload a multi-item file.
Tofie splits pages into separate extractions:
Page 1 → Extraction 1
Page 2-4→ Extraction 2
Page 5-6 → Extraction 3
Each extraction is created in Pending or Needs Review status (depending on your settings).
Review and approve as needed.
4. Auto Splitting Bank Statements
AI Auto Split can also separate bank statements that contain multiple account sections within the same file.
For example, if a bank statement PDF includes multiple accounts, Tofie can automatically split them into individual extractions.
Example result:
Account 1234 → Extraction 1
Account 5678 → Extraction 2
Account 9012 → Extraction 3
Each extraction can then be reviewed, verified, or exported separately.
💡 Tip: Manually Splitting Bank Statements
If Auto Split does not detect the sections correctly, you can manually split the statement by dragging and selecting the pages you want to extract. Each selection will create a separate extraction for review.
5. Support & Troubleshooting
If items are not split correctly:
Items not visually separable: Each section should start on a new page or have a clear header.
Low-quality or rotated scans: Blurry or skewed pages reduce accuracy.
Single item spans multiple pages: Ambiguous breaks may be treated as one item.
Mixed document types in one file: Combining invoices, bank statements, or receipts may produce inconsistent results.
What to do next
Re-extract the document after improving scan quality if possible.
Switch the entity setting to Auto Split (Split Only) to review splits before extraction.
Manually split using snipping or cropping tools if needed.
