⚠️ Important: AI Auto Split is currently in early testing. You must enable it manually from your organization settings before you can use it.

The AI Auto Split feature allows the system to intelligently categorize line items, reducing manual input for item-level extraction.

1. Enabling AI Auto Split

  1. Go to Organization SettingsOverviewSettings and Features.

  2. Locate AI Auto Split in the list of features.

  3. Toggle the feature ON.

  4. A warning message will appear. Review the risks of enabling a testing feature.

  5. If you agree, click “I understand the risks.”

    • Once enabled, all entities in your organization will be able to access AI Auto Split settings.

📕 Only organization owners can edit the early features access

2. Configuring AI Auto Split for an Entity

  1. Open the Entity Settings by clicking the ⚙️ (settings wheel).

  2. Scroll to the AI section.

  3. Choose one of the following options:

    • No Auto Split = Opt Out → Do not use AI Auto Split.

    • Auto Split = Opt In (Split Only) → Tofie will automatically split documents into separate extractions in Pending status, without extracting them

    • Auto Split and Extract = Opt In (Split + Extract) → Tofie will split the document and automatically extract invoice details, just like in the end-to-end workflow.

3. Processing a Document with AI Auto Split

  1. Upload a file containing multiple invoices.

  2. Tofu will start processing the file.

  3. Tofie will automatically detect and split the file into separate extractions.

    • Example: a 6-page file with 3 invoices one of 1 page, one of 3 pages and one of 2 pages, will be split into 3 separate extractions.

  4. Each invoice will appear in Needs Review status if the AI setting is "Auto Split and Extract" or in Pending if it is just "Auto Split"

  5. After extraction, whether manual or automated, move to the Extraction Column to check and confirm each invoice.

4. Example Workflow

  • Upload a file containing several invoices.

  • Tofie splits the file automatically:

    • Page 1 → Invoice 1

    • Page 2-3-4→ Invoice 2

    • … and so on.

  • Each extraction is created in Pending or Needs Review status (depending on your settings).

  • Review and approve as needed.

5. Support & Troubleshooting

If you have questions or run into issues while using AI Auto Split, the Tofu Support Team is here to help. Before reaching out, you may want to review the common reasons why Auto Split might not separate invoices as expected.

Auto Split did not separate the invoices

If Auto Split is enabled but your upload was not split into separate extractions, check the following:

  1. Invoices are not visually separable
Auto Split works best when each invoice starts on a new page or has a clear header or structure.

  2. Low-quality or rotated scans
Blurry, skewed, or rotated pages can reduce split accuracy. Try re-scanning or correcting the page orientation before re-uploading.

  3. One invoice spans multiple pages without clear continuation
When page breaks are ambiguous, Auto Split may treat multiple pages as a single invoice.

  4. Mixed document types in one file
Files that combine invoices, bank statements, or receipts may produce inconsistent results.

What to do next

  • Re-extract the document after improving scan quality, if possible.

  • Switch the entity setting to Auto Split (split only) so you can review the split before extraction.

  • If needed, manually split the document using the review tools (snipping or cropping), then proceed with extraction per document.

  • If the issue persists, contact the Tofu Support Team for assistance.

✨ With AI Auto Split, Tofie reduces manual work by turning large, multi-invoice files into neatly separated invoices — automatically.
