View Mode vs. Edit Mode in Extraction Review

Tofu loads all extractions in View Mode by default. This allows you to review extracted data immediately before making any changes. You can switch to Edit Mode anytime to update fields, line items, or selections.

What Is View Mode?

View Mode is a read-only version of your extraction.

It is the default mode for all extractions and allows you to quickly review extracted data before enabling editing.

In View Mode, you can:

  • Review extracted values

  • Scroll and inspect the source document

  • Click highlights to see where values were extracted from

  • Spot-check totals and line items

In View Mode, you cannot:

  • Type into fields

  • Change dropdown selections

  • Add or remove line items (where applicable)

View Mode helps streamline document review before making corrections.

What Is Edit Mode?

Edit Mode allows you to update and correct extracted data.

In Edit Mode, you can:

  • Modify field values (e.g., dates, amounts, invoice numbers)

  • Change dropdown selections (accounts, tax rates, contacts, categories)

  • Add, remove, or edit line items (depending on extraction type)

  • Save changes before publishing or verifying

Use Edit Mode whenever corrections or adjustments are needed.

How to Switch to Edit Mode

You can enter Edit Mode in either of the following ways:

Option 1: Click Edit

  1. Open the extraction in extraction view.

  2. Click the Edit button.

  3. The page becomes editable.

Option 2: Click into a Field

  1. Open the extraction in extraction view.

  2. Click directly into any field (such as Date, Supplier, or Account).

  3. Tofu automatically switches to Edit Mode.

This is expected behavior, interacting with a field activates editing.

How to Exit Edit Mode

After making changes, you may see options such as:

  • Save Draft – Saves your changes before leaving the page (recommended).

  • Discard – Reverts any unsaved changes.

Tip: If you navigate away without saving, your changes may be lost. Always click Save Draft if you want to keep your edits.

When Should I Use Each Mode?

Use View Mode when you:

  • Need to quickly verify extracted data

  • Are reviewing multiple extractions

  • Want faster loading before deciding whether changes are needed

Use Edit Mode when you:

  • Need to correct extracted values

  • Need to adjust accounts, taxes, or categories

  • Need to add or fix line items

  • Plan to verify or publish after making corrections
